Subject: Suspension of expansion approval during the December-January holiday period
Dear Madam/Sir,
In Telecom Decision CRTC 2012-396, Notification requirements for competitive local exchange carriers seeking to offer local services in new exchanges, and filing of related documents, the Commission clarified the requirements for competitive local exchange carriers (CLEC) seeking to offer local services in new exchanges. In that decision, the Commission reiterated, among other things, that the Commission would communicate registration in such instances by means of the General Tariff Exchanges list within 15 calendar days following reception of intention and notification letter, unless Commission staff determines the notification requirements have not been fulfilled.
Commission staff reminds prospective applicants that, under the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission Rules of Practice and Procedure (Rules of Procedure), the holiday period from 21 December to 7 January is excluded when calculating a time period set out in Telecom Decision 2012-396. For example, if you file an expansion request on 13 December 2025, the fifteenth calendar day would be 15 January 2026 (7 days before 21 December plus 8 days after 7 January).
In addition, any intention and notification request filed during the holiday period will be processed as though received on 8 January 2026.
Please take these timelines into account if you file intention or notification requests during this time period.
