Consultation about enhancing customer notification
Current status: Decision issued
The CRTC’s decision strengthens consumer protections by improving how Canadians are notified about expiring Internet and cellphone contracts and discounts, and about options when roaming internationally.
We sought your comments on how to improve the information Canadians receive from their Internet and cellphone service providers through the 90-day notice (when their current contract is about to end), or when roaming internationally.
This consultation ran from November 22, 2024 to February 14, 2025.
Who was the focus of this consultation
We were looking to hear from anyone with an interest in making it easier to choose an Internet or cellphone service.
Key topics for discussion
We invited you to provide your comments on:
- What information should the 90-day notice include about the plans offered by the service provider?
- Should the 90-day notice remind customers with a device rental plan to return their device or pay to keep it?
- What helpful details should the notice provide about any self-service options available?
- Should international roaming notifications inform customers about packages to avoid pay-as-you-go charges and notify them before reaching the $100 limit?
Read the Notice of Consultation for more details.
