Changes to procedure

  1. On 15 July 2025, the Commission issued Call for comments – Improving the public alerting system, Telecom and Broadcasting Notice of Consultation CRTC 2025-180, 15 July 2025 (the Proceeding). In the Proceeding, the Commission is seeking comments on certain aspects of the National Public Alerting System, including barriers to accessibility, the languages in which alerts are provided, issues affecting its availability nationwide, and possible measures the Commission could implement to monitor the system’s status more effectively. The deadlines to file interventions, replies, and final written submissions were 14 October 2025, 13 November 2025, and 3 December 2025, respectively.
  2. On 30 September 2025, the Deaf Wireless Canada Consultative Committee (DWCC) submitted a procedural request seeking an extension for the intervention deadline established for the Proceeding. The DWCC provided reasons as to why the extension was required to better ensure it could participate effectively in the Proceeding.
  3. The Commission is satisfied that granting the request would contribute to a more robust public record for the Proceeding and would be in the public interest. The Commission further considers that the public interest would be served by granting the extension to all interested persons and by revising the remaining deadlines accordingly.
  4. In light of the above, the Commission extends the deadlines as follows:
    • deadline for the submission of interventions: 21 November 2025;
    • deadline for the submission of replies: 19 December 2025; and
    • deadline for the submission of final written submissions: 28 January 2026.
