The Cost Recovery (Online News Act) Regulations come into force on 1 April 2025. Under those regulations, an operator must file with the Commission an annual return in the form provided by the Commission. Two new forms must be completed as part of the process to obtain the operator’s news revenue. These forms are assigned to the operators of online platforms (called “digital news intermediaries”) that are regulated under Online News Act.

Due dates
- 31 May 2025 – For this year only, an operator must report its news revenue for 2024 to the Commission, on Form 1092, within 60 days after the day on which the Cost Recovery (Online News Act) Regulations come into force (1 April 2025).
- 30 April 2026 – For next year and subsequent years, an operator must file with the Commission an annual return in Form 1092.
