Decision

Ottawa, 22 October 1984
Decision CRTC 84-906
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Sudbury, Ontario - 833160500
Following a Public Hearing in Hull, Quebec on 5 June 1984, the Commission approves the application for a broadcasting licence for an English-language FM radio station at Sudbury on the frequency 90.1 MHz, channel 211B, with an effective radiated power of 48,000 watts to rebroadcast the programs of the CBC English-language FM Radio Network service, received from CBL-FM Toronto. The Commission will issue a licence expiring 30 September 1987, subject to the conditions of licence specified in the licence to be issued.
Because of antenna height restrictions, at the request of the Department of Communications (DOC) the CBC was requested to reduce the effective radiated power originally proposed from 49,200 watts to 48,000 watts. No reduction in coverage is expected as a result of this decrease in power.
The Commission received an intervention from United Broadcasting Limited in opposition to the application on the grounds that the use of the proposed frequency might cause interference with the signal of its station, CIGM-FM Sudbury. The Commission notes, however, the CBC's reply that interference is unlikely. The Commission further notes that the DOC has now determined that this proposal is technically acceptable.
Fernand Bélisle Secretary General
