Decision

Ottawa, 3 March 1986
Decision CRTC 86-159
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Fort Nelson, British Columbia - 851768200
Following a Public Hearing in Hull, Quebec on 11 February 1986, the Commission approves the application for a broadcasting licence for an English-language FM radio station at Fort Nelson on the frequency 88.3 MHz, channel 202A, with an effective radiated power of 223 watts to rebroadcast the programs of CBU Vancouver.
The Commission will issue a licence expiring 30 September 1988, subject to the conditions specified in the licence to be issued. This term will enable the Commission to consider the renewal of this licence at the same time as that of CBU Vancouver.
The Commission notes that this new FM station conforms to the guidelines concerning the use of FM channels for the extension of the CBC's basic AM service, as set out in Public Notices CRTC 1985-86 and 1985-142 dated 2 May and 9 July 1985 respectively, and that it will result in a significant extension of the CBC AM network service in this area.
The CBC has indicated that it intends to cease the operation of CBDA, the AM rebroadcaster of CBU Vancouver in Fort Nelson, no later than one year following the date on which the new FM transmitter becomes operational. The Commission expects the CBC to cease operation of CBDA within this time frame.
