Decision

Ottawa, 18 September 1998
Decision CRTC 98-436
Western Broadcasting Limited
Corner Brook and Stephenville, Newfoundland - 199716768
Licence amendment for CKXX-FM
1. Following Public Notice CRTC 1998-68 dated 16 July 1998, the Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for the radio programming undertaking CKXX-FM Corner Brook, as follows:
- by adding a low-power FM transmitter at Stephenville operating on the frequency 95.3 MHz (channel 237LP) with an effective radiated power of 4 watts; and
- by ceasing the operation of the transmitter at Deer Lake.
2. In Decision CRTC 97-43, the Commission approved an application to convert CKXX serving Corner Brook from AM to FM. The licensee indicated that the low-power FM transmitter approved herein is needed to improve service to Stephenville.
3. The licensee is closing the Deer Lake transmitter because the signal of CKXX-FM provides adequate service to the Deer Lake area.
4. The technical parameters approved in this decision are for a low-power unprotected FM service. Accordingly, the applicant would have to select another frequency for the operation of the service should optimum utilization of the broadcasting spectrum so require.
This decision is to be appended to the licence.
