Licence to carry on a new television network

1.

The Commission approves the application by CTV Television Inc. for a licence to carry on a new, English-language television programming network. The new network will operate for the purpose of providing programming to Thunder Bay Electronics Inc., Norcom Communications Limited, and Mid-West Television Ltd. These are the licensees, respectively, of the English-language television stations CHFD-TV Thunder Bay, CJBN-TV Kenora and of CITL-TV Lloydminster and its transmitters.

The Commission will issue CTV Television Inc. a licence to be in effect from 1 September 2001 to 31 August 2008. The licence will be subject to the conditions set out therein.

The new network will provide news and sports programming, and may also originate some non-news, non-sports, entertainment programming for delivery to the three stations.

The Commission notes that this licensee is subject to the Employment Equity Act and therefore files reports concerning employment equity with Human Resources Development Canada.
