Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2008-293

  Ottawa, 21 October 2008
  Vista Radio Ltd.
Nelson, British Columbia
  Application 2008-1015-2, received 23 July 2008
Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 2008-72
19 August 2008

CHNV-FM Nelson - Technical change

1. The Commission approves the application by Vista Radio Ltd. (Vista) to change the authorized contours of CHNV-FM Nelson by increasing the average effective radiated power from 84 watts to 1,100 watts, increasing the effective antenna height above average terrain to 376 metres and relocating the transmitter. The implementation of this technical change is subject to the notification by the Department of Industry (the Department) discussed in paragraph 4 below.
2. Vista stated that the quality of CHNV-FM's signal is currently so poor that it does not even cover the highway, which is a vital part of life in Nelson. The licensee maintained that the proposed changes will improve the quality of CHNV-FM's signal.
3. The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.

Condition prior to the implementation of the new technical parameters

4. The Commission reminds the licensee that pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued. Therefore, in the absence of the notification by the Department, the applicant will not be able to implement the new technical parameters approved in this decision.
