Dear Ms. Watson:

We have received your application for Commission authorization to permit CPAC, by condition of licence, to broadcast French-language coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, as provided by V for the duration of the Games.

Please be advised that, given the importance of the Olympic Games to all language communities in Canada, the Commission grants you for the duration of the Games the authorization to broadcast V’s Olympic programming as part of your mandate as a public service and subject to the existing distribution arrangements. The Commission also relieves you of your current restrictions regarding the broadcast of commercial messages in respect to this programming for the duration of the Games.

As you are aware, the Commission is on record of encouraging broadcasters to ensure that as many Canadians as possible can have access to the coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in their official language mother tongue. We therefore welcome your initiative in this respect.

Sincerely,
