Application 2011-1349-8

CKSH-DT Sherbrooke – Technical amendment

1.      The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to amend the technical parameters for the French-language conventional digital television undertaking CKSH-DT Sherbrooke, Quebec by increasing the average effective radiated power (ERP) from 1,370 to 11,160 watts (maximum ERP from 4,470 to 36,280 watts). All other technical parameters will remain unchanged. The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.

2.      The CBC stated that following the transition to digital that took place on 31 August 2011, it received many complaints related to bad reception CKSH-DT’s signal in the Sherbrooke area. The CBC therefore proposed this amendment to remedy reception and signal penetration problems inside homes and buildings.

3.      The Commission reminds the licensee that pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
