RE: Questions to obtain pertinent information from industry participants in relation to IP voice network interconnection

Dear Madame, Sir:

In Telecom Regulatory Policy CRTC 2012-24, Network interconnection for voice services, dated 19 January 2012, the Commission considered that the sharing of technical information on IP voice network interconnection trials could benefit the industry. The Commission requested the CRTC interconnection Steering Committee (CISC) to develop questionnaires to be used to obtain pertinent information from industry participants in relation to IP voice network interconnection. In response to the request by the Commission, CISC assigned that task to the Network Working Group (NTWG). The Commission has since approved the questions developed by the NTWG.

If your company has been involved in IP voice network interconnection, please provide an answer to the questions below within 30 days of receiving this letter, in the form of a Contribution to the NTWG Chair, Rob Sired, Rob.Sired@TELUS.COM. A template Contribution form is attached to this effect.

1) Has your company implemented an IP to IP voice network interconnection with another network operator using any aspects of the recommendations in the attached IP Voice Interconnection Guidelines Version 1.1 (NTGLIPIC11.doc)?

2) If the answer to Question 1 is Yes, did the results require modification of the Guidelines in order to achieve the functionality its recommendations were intended to support? (Disregard issues related to the resolution of particular vendor and/or carrier implementations.)

3) If the answer to Question 2 is Yes, provide a high-level synopsis of the architecture, the symptoms of the failure encountered and the expected results. If the issue was resolved, include a description of the solution.

4) Has your company implemented any previous IP to IP voice network interconnection with other network operator(s) that you may wish to comment on?

Your response to these questions is appreciated as it assists in identifying potential issues that may affect the implementation of IP voice network interconnection, and it enables interested parties within the NTWG to work together in resolving these problems as quickly as possible.

If you have any questions with respect to the above questions, or in completing the Contribution, please contact Rob Sired at 780-508-2321.

Sincerely,
