Application 2016-0560-2

CBQT-FM Thunder Bay and its transmitter CBLG-FM Geraldton –Technical changes

  1. The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to change the authorized contours of CBLG-FM Geraldton, a rebroadcasting transmitter of the English-language radio programming undertaking CBQT-FM Thunder Bay, Ontario, by correcting the transmitter site coordinates, changing the class from B to B1, and decreasing the effective radiated power from 11,900 to 5,950 watts and the effective height of antenna above average terrain from 134 to 133.1 metres. The Commission did not receive any interventions regarding this application.
  2. The CBC indicated that its existing time-worn transmitter in Geraldton needs to be replaced.
  3. Pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
  4. The transmitter must be operational with implemented technical changes at the earliest possible date and in any event no later than 24 months from the date of this decision, unless a request for an extension of time is approved by the Commission before 8 September 2018. In order to ensure that such a request is processed in a timely manner, it should be submitted in writing at least 60 days before that date.
