Application 2016-0468-7

CHOC-FM Saint-Rémi – Technical amendments

  1. The Commission approves the application by Radio communautaire Intergénération Jardin du Québec to change the authorized contours of the radio programming undertaking CHOC-FM Saint-Rémi, Quebec, by relocating the transmitter site, by changing the antenna from non-directional to directional, by changing the transmitter class from A1 to A and by increasing the average effective radiated power (ERP) from 250 to 572 watts (maximum ERP from 250 to 1,714 watts, with an effective height of antenna from 30 to 53.9 metres). The Commission did not receive any interventions regarding this application.
  2. The licensee indicated that these amendments were necessary since the municipal building used as an antenna structure for the station had been demolished. It added that it has since been operating the station at 50% capacity, having moved the transmitter to a building owned by the municipality of Saint-Rémi. The change will allow it to efficiently reach all of its service area’s population. The licensee also stated that its transmitter and other equipment are subject to premature deterioration due to vapors from chemicals used at this location.
  3. The Commission reminds the licensee that pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
  4. The transmitter must be operational with implemented technical changes at the earliest possible date and in any event no later than 24 months from the date of this decision, unless a request for an extension of time is approved by the Commission before 11 October 2018. In order to ensure that such a request is processed in a timely manner, it should be submitted in writing at least 60 days before that date.
