CHOZ-FM St. John’s – Deletion of rebroadcasting transmitters

The Commission has the authority, pursuant to subsection 9(1) of the Broadcasting Act, to issue licences for the carrying on of broadcasting undertakings as well as to amend those licences.
Pursuant to this authority, the Commission approves the application by Newfoundland Broadcasting Company Limited to amend the broadcasting licence for the English-language radio programming undertaking CHOZ-FM St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, by deleting the rebroadcasting transmitters CIOZ-FM Marystown, CJOZ-FM Elliston and CFAZ-FM Gander from the licence.
Newfoundland Broadcasting Company Limited filed an application to amend the broadcasting licence for the English-language radio programming undertaking CHOZ-FM St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, to delete the rebroadcasting transmitters CIOZ-FM Marystown, CJOZ-FM Elliston and CFAZ-FM Gander from the licence. The licensee requested the deletion of the three transmitters due to the lack of revenues generated, in the case of Gander and Marystown, and the costs associated with bringing the station back within compliance to Safety Code 6, for the case of Elliston.
The Commission’s files will be updated and will reflect the amendments described in this decision.
