Shaw Pay-Per-View (direct-to-home) – Administrative renewal

The Commission renews the broadcasting licence for the English-language direct-to-home on-demand service Shaw Pay-Per-View from 1 September 2024 to 31 August 2026.
Pursuant to subsections 49(1) and 50(2) of the Online Streaming Act, which amended the Broadcasting Act when it came into force on 27 April 2023, obligations that previously existed as conditions of licence are now deemed to be conditions imposed under an order made pursuant to section 9.1 of the amended Broadcasting Act, or subsection 11.1(2) in the case of expenditure requirements. As such, the conditions of licence for this licensee became conditions of service and continue to apply to the licensee.
This administrative renewal will allow sufficient time for the Commission to modernize its regulatory frameworks in response to the new Broadcasting Act and implement the appropriate changes in the future.
This decision does not dispose of any issue that may arise in regard to the renewal of this licence, including any non-compliance issues. The Commission will consider the substantive issues related to this licence, including the various conditions of service, at a later date, and interested persons will have an opportunity to comment at the appropriate time. Nor does this decision dispose of any issues raised by any other application filed by the licensee. Those issues will be considered in due course and in light of ongoing work to implement the new Broadcasting Act.
