mandatory carriage
Definition
Pursuant to section 9(1)(h) of the Broadcasting Act, the Commission "may require any licensee who is authorized to carry on a distribution undertaking to carry, on such terms and conditions as the Commission deems appropriate, programming services specified by the Commission." (Source: Broadcasting Public Notice 2005-89).

The Commission uses this authority to require the distribution of fourteen (14) services. Currently, the following services have mandatory distribution: • AMI-audio • AMI-télé • AMI-tv • APTN • ARTV (in English-language markets) • CPAC • Canal M • CBC News Network (in French-language markets) • The Legislative Assemblies of Nunavut and the Northwest Territories (only on the digital basic service of direct-to-home satellite providers serving Nunavut and the Northwest Territories) • OMNI Regional • Le Réseau de l'information (RDI) (in English-language markets) • TV5/Unis • TVA (outside the province of Quebec) • The Weather Network/MétéoMédia
